I really believe that PGX operates under a very tight budget that doesn't allow them to spend the type of money they need to in order to get their name out to the collecting community. this hinders their ability to pursuade collectors to use their services.

Do they need to change this? Positively, or else they will always be considered that other grading company.

The Overstreet ad should go a long way toward getting their name out there.

I am talking about the whole package, not just the offering of three free subs. The offering of the free subs is important, but to get dealers talking about the service, PGX needs to highlight in its marketing materials those areas where they believe they offer advantages over CGC. That will give the dealers the information they need to talk up the company to buyers and other dealers when those people inevitably ask "who the hell is PGX?"

I agree with you Scott, I am just wondering if you know that they haven't tried this. Or did Daniel attempt it and was not very successful at it.

I am fairly certain Daniel hasn't done the full marketing package that I described. I seem to recall Daniel saying that he had offered free subs to some dealers in the past as a try out. I don't know to whom he offered the subs or how successful the idea was from a marketing standpoint.

He hasn't offered it to me. If he did, I would be happy to send them some GA books which I would turn around and try to sell, i.e., publicity.

The timing should be good too, with CGC having scandal after scandal.

Daniel offered a bunch of free submissions to CGC forum members a while back...myself included. I procrastinated(big surprise) & didn't follow through, but I appreciated the offer to 'try-out' their services none-the-less.

well, this will seem shallow and unimportant, but the main turnoff for me wrt PGX slabs is the label.

the information on the label is great, but the look of the thing just seems like something that was thrown together in Microsoft Paint or Word and printed out on Avery labels. and that logo needs a serious overhaul. which of course makes the slab less desirable, even though you buy the book and not the slab...

as Donut says, perception is reality. and as i said, this is a minor issue in comparison to the bigger issues addressed in this thread already. but if you want to be seen as a leader, you have to look at everything, imho

There is clearly a problem with their grading of lower end books. That 3.5 is clearly no better then 2.0, maybe 2.5 if I were being very generous.

The use of the term "World" to denote their unrestored grade (akin to CGC's use of the term "Universal" to denote same) has always reminded me of the McDowell's/McDonald's relationship from the Eddie Murphy movie "Coming to America." "They have the golden arches, I have the golden arcs." A more blatant trademark/trade dress infringement case I have not seen in a long time.

We will have an ad in the upcoming Overstreet and are working at getting to more shows. We have a few more internal changes to make here that will free up a good chunk of time to allow us to get to many more shows. We will have a marketing packet when this happens and are greatly looking forward to marketing more aggressively. Being a smaller company it is easy to get wrapped up in the day to day work and ignore the big picture and we are working on expanding the picture.

We always listen to suggestions and have made many changes based on customer and forum member suggestions.

Daniel

This is true, Daniel, and you are to be applauded for it. I believe that all of the successes you've experienced to date are a result of not just listening to your customers, but also actually following suggestions they give you for improvement. I also applaud your professionalism in listening to a lot of very frank criticism over the past couple of years. IMO, you still have a lot of room for improvement, but it is reassuring to see that you are eager to try.
