What do you feel PGX needs to do to become a serious contender to CGC?

Honestly, they need to promote their company better.

- Attend comic conventions.
- Accept submissions at conventions.
- Advertise in Overstreet
- Implement a Census

I agree and I think we can push them a bit by contacting them and submitting some books.

How was their modern grading? I have some CA/modern that I need to get graded here in the next few months. Might as well use them as CGC. CGC really isn't giving me much confidence. Although, I thought they graded one of my books pretty nicely.

I like PGX for slabbing books from my personal collection. I think their grading for 8.5 and above books are consistent and Daniel is very responsive to any queries. My main problem with PGX is that they don't have the expertise to catch the sophisticated manipulation of books that seems to be happening in the hobby. CGC actually does not do much better but the perception is there that PGX is inferior in this regard. PGX also needs to cut any ties with Terence Leder if they want to be a credible competitor. PGX does have better pricing and their slabs are superior.

In all honesty, on moderns, they are great. Perhaps time will tell.

So CGC and PGX have no fear of those.

I'm setting up my own grading company.

Here are the costs and turnaround times:

9.8 $200

9.6 $150

9.4 $125

9.2 $100

9.0 $50

We currently don't offer grades below 9.0

Turnaround times are 5 business days.

AND yes, I do think Daniel is a bit too tight on the lower end.
Also maybe a bit too loose on the higher end.
I had four books, identical, came out of a sealed box next to each
other, all recieved a 9.8, but none had a perfect black line down
the center of the spine. One rolled an ittsy bittsy forward, one an
eensy weensy backward, I am guessing that's what held them
back from a 9.9 or 10.0.....food for thought while I'm waiting for
the shop to tell me what's wrong with the pickup... I smell a
big bill coming.
